Introduction
This is the story of the first fifty years in the life of Steven Eli Schanes-
about interesting people and some fun-filled times. It has been a good life.Each “Chapter” covers a specific period of time.
The accompanying “Stories” tell of interesting people and incidents.I hope that my family, friends and others will enjoy these details of a most happy voyage.
The student literary magazine at Monclair State Teachers College was called The Quarterly. For one semester I was the literary editor, passing upon the student contributions. Of the many submissions, the only one I have remembered over the years is one, by W. Reeve Stone, that I rejected out of hand:
"Every morning when I get up
Out I go with my little pup,
And when he does what he has to do
I come home and do it too."
What is the test of literary worth?
